Ambassador John Veroneau

John K. Veroneau is a senior counsel in Covington & Burling LLP’s Washington, DC office and is highly ranked by Chambers USA and Chambers Global for his client work on a wide range of international trade, security and investment matters.  Mr. Veroneau held Senate-confirmed positions under President Bush as Deputy United States Trade Representative (USTR) and USTR General Counsel, and under President Clinton as an Assistant Secretary of Defense.  He served as Legislative Director to U.S. Senator Bill Cohen, Legislative Director to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Susan Collins.  Mr. Veroneau provides regular trade analysis to the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times and Bloomberg TV.  He earned his B.A. from the University of Maine and his J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law.  He and his wife Carol Svoboda have two sons.
